CINCINNATI - Three student-athletes on the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team were named to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association's All-Academic Team, the organization announced Friday.
Seniors Logan Ballinger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Emily Hebbeler (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) and Kelli Pawelko (Lemont, Ill./Lemont ) were all named to the second team after each capped their playing careers with stellar grade point averages during 2011 the fall quarter.
"I couldn't be more proud of Logan, KP and Hebs for receiving this award," said Michelle Salmon, UC women's soccer head coach. "It's a representation of how the three balance being great soccer players and excellent students. They truly embody the term student-athlete."
Ballinger, who in June earned a degree in Dietetics, finished the fall quarter with a perfect 4.0 GPA while pursuing a second degree in Nursing.
Pawelko produced a 3.778 GPA in the Secondary Education program and Hebbeler recorded a 3.733 GPA while studying Communication Sciences and Disorders.
"The academic support that we provide is integral in the success of our soccer team," Salmon added. "In addition to our squad receiving the NSCAAA Team Academic Award for the sixth straight year, these three individuals embody the hard work that (academic advisor) Keri Thoman and (strength and conditioning coach) Kelly Howe put it in to help make us such a successful program."
